How is cord blood collected?

If you choose to safeguard your baby's cord blood, your healthcare professional or trained paramedical staffs will collect it immediately after the baby is separated from the mother. The umbilical cord is sterilized before collection. To draw the blood from the umbilical cord , a needle is placed into the vein of the umbilical cord. The blood is then collected in a bag. The cord blood collection procedure is risk-free for both mother and child. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes.

How is cord blood processed?

The cord blood is delivered to the laboratory of the cord blood bank, where it is first tested for infections & then processed by either manual method or by Sepax machine. A small portion of Mother’s blood is also collected and tested for infections to ensure that it is safe to use.

How is cord blood stored?

Post processing of the cord blood, the same is placed in a machine known as Controlled rate freezer to bring the temperature down gradually before final storage. Finally, the cord blood unit is cryo freezed & stored at -196° in Vapour phase of liquid nitrogen. The cord blood units are stored in specially designed Steel tanks for long-term storage.
